Christmas comes around every year, and it can become a beautiful season to renew our closeness with God. The season reminds us that God came near to us so that we could draw near to Him.
Christmas isn’t just about lights, gifts, or creating the perfect celebration atmosphere. It is a season that deeply reveals the heart of our Father in heaven and His love toward us.
If we want Christmas to have real meaning in our lives, we shouldn’t simply move through the season. We can slow down and look at the story of Christ’s coming through the lens of God’s love for us, allowing it to draw our hearts closer to Him. This becomes an opportunity to know Him more deeply and how you let Christmas draw you closer to Christ.
Another Look at Jesus This Christmas
The story of Jesus’ birth is one of the most familiar Bible stories we return to every Christmas. But this year, we can choose to look beyond the familiar details of His birth and consider more deeply who actually came into the world for us and why He came.
Matthew 1:18–23 gives us a glimpse into the significance of His arrival.
This holy child was also the promised Savior who came into a sinful world.
In Jesus, God came near to us in human flesh, revealing the depth of His love and His desire to reconcile us to Himself.
Matthew tells us that He would be called Immanuel, meaning “God with us.”
That name reveals something beautiful about the heart of our God. He did not remain distant from the people He came to save. In Christ, He came near.
Jesus came into our world to accomplish our salvation and bring us back to God.
Christmas, then, is more than remembering that a baby was born in Bethlehem.
It is remembering that God came near.
When we look at Jesus again through that lens, the Christmas story becomes more than a familiar account. It becomes another opportunity to see the heart of the Father toward us.
5 Truths to Carry With You This Christmas and Beyond
The story of Christ’s coming gives us more than something to celebrate. It gives us truths we can carry into our everyday lives and these truths can let Christmas draw you closer to Christ.
1. You Are Not Alone—God Is With You
Matthew 1:23 reminds us:
“They will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”). — Matthew 1:23 (NIV)
The coming of Jesus reminds us that God is not distant from us.
His presence matters in every season, and His grace is available as we learn to walk with Him.
When life feels uncertain, never forget that the God who came near in Christ is still the God who invites you to walk closely with Him.
2. Christmas Points Us to Salvation
The birth of Jesus cannot be separated from the reason He came.
He came to save.
If you feel that you’ve wandered far from God, don’t assume that you’ve gone too far to return. The message of the gospel is an invitation for you to come to Christ.
You can make room for Him in your heart if you haven’t already.
And if you already belong to Him, Christmas can remind you again of the grace that brought you near.
3. Learn Humility From the Creator Himself
The One through whom all things were made entered the world in remarkable humility.
Jesus did not come seeking earthly status or recognition. He came to serve and ultimately to give His life for others.
His life gives us a beautiful model of humility, love, and selfless service.
If Christ willingly humbled Himself, we can ask Him for the grace to become less concerned with recognition and more willing to love, serve, and obey.
4. Be Grateful for the Gift of Jesus
The coming of Jesus remains a gift we should never treat as ordinary.
John 3:16 reminds us:
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son…” — John 3:16 (NIV)
God has given us something far greater than anything Christmas shopping could ever provide.
Jesus is the gift at the heart of our celebration.
So as you enjoy the gifts, meals, gatherings, and traditions of Christmas, don’t let them become more important than the gift that makes the celebration meaningful.
Let gratitude for Christ remain at the center as you let Christmas draw you closer to Christ.
5. Let Christmas Strengthen Your Walk With Him
Christmas gives us another opportunity to look at Jesus and respond to His love.
If Christ gave Himself for us, our response should not stop when the Christmas season ends.
Let the story of His coming encourage you to surrender more of your life to Him.
Don’t hold back the parts of your life you would rather keep under your own control.
Continue learning to trust Him, obey Him, and follow where He leads.
Christmas can become a reminder not only of what Jesus has done for you, but also of the relationship He invites you into.
Walking With Christ After Christmas
Christmas comes every year, but this Christmas can mark a meaningful change in the way you see Jesus.
Perhaps this can be the Christmas when you stop simply moving through the familiar story and allow yourself to look again—to see Christ more clearly and respond to Him more personally.
Let the reality of God’s love in Christ continue beyond the Christmas season.
Make time for prayer, spend time in God’s Word, worship Him with gratitude, and stay connected to a community of believers who can encourage you as you grow in your walk with Christ.
The Christmas season will end, but Jesus doesn’t become less worthy of our attention when the decorations come down.
The One we celebrate in December is the same Christ we are invited to follow every day.
