God’s wisdom is higher than ours, and there are times when, out of His mercy and love for us, He chooses not to reveal everything we want to know at a particular time. Why God doesn’t tell us everything at once is a question many of us have asked, especially when we wish we could see what lies ahead before taking the first step.
We want to know exactly how things will turn out, understand everything that’s coming, figure out why certain things are happening, and know where the decisions we’re making will eventually lead.
Whatever God chooses to reveal and whatever He chooses to keep from us for a time are both held within His wisdom. That is something we must learn to understand and trust.

Why We Always Long to Know Everything
Most of us don’t want to know everything about the future simply because we’re curious. We want to know because not knowing can leave us imagining the worst.
Wanting clarity is a normal part of life, and there’s nothing wrong with that. God gave us minds to think, discern, plan, and make wise decisions.
Having more information can make us feel safer. But God also wants us to trust His wisdom over our own understanding in everything we do.

God Never Meant Information to Replace Intimacy
God never does anything without purpose. Every instruction He gives, every answer He provides, and even the things He chooses not to reveal are shaped by His wisdom, love, and desire to draw us closer to Himself.
Throughout Scripture, He never makes information the foundation of trust. Instead, He teaches His people to know Him by walking closely with Him because His heart as a Father has always been for His children to live in genuine relationship with Him.
But how can a child truly trust a Father they do not know?
If God answered every question before we had to walk by faith, we might slowly become more dependent on what we know than on the One who knows all things.
Having complete information can make us feel more in control, but intimacy keeps us close to God.
Our confidence was never meant to rest in having every answer. It was meant to rest in complete dependence on the wisdom, character, and timing of the all-knowing God.

Take the First Step in Faith, and Trust God to Reveal the Next
When God called Abraham, He could have explained every detail of the journey ahead. But He didn’t.
He simply said:
“Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.” — Genesis 12:1 (NIV)
Abraham didn’t know where the journey would lead or everything he would face along the way.
God also knew how long it would be before Abraham would begin to see His promises fulfilled, yet He didn’t reveal the length of the waiting season.
He simply told Abraham to “go”.
Abraham’s obedience wasn’t built on having complete information. It was built on confidence in the God who had called him.
Hebrews later describes his response:
“By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.” — Hebrews 11:8 (NIV)
That is what trusting God looks like when we don’t know where the journey will lead.
We don’t need the whole picture to obey what God has already made clear.
And as we obey what He has already shown us, He can reveal what we need to know next. The direction ahead becomes clearer as we faithfully walk in the light He has already given.

Walking in the Light God Gives
By not revealing the whole journey to us, God is not trying to keep us in the dark. He is inviting us to remain close to Him and walk in the light He gives.
Not having the whole picture keeps us coming back to Him in humility. We need His wisdom, His Word, and His direction. We return to His presence because we know we cannot see everything He sees.
That is how intimacy grows.
The more we come to Him, the more we know His heart. The more we know His heart, the more we trust His character. And the more we trust His character, the less we need complete information before we can rest in His wisdom.
This is one of the ways God accomplishes His purposes in us before He accomplishes them through us.
He is not only concerned with getting us to where He is leading us. He is also shaping who we become as we walk closely with Him.
We may sometimes wish God would simply show us everything and remove the uncertainty. But complete information can never give us what intimacy with God gives us.
Knowing the whole plan might satisfy our questions, but knowing God teaches our hearts where to rest.
That is why walking closely with Him is far more valuable than having every detail explained in advance.

Sometimes God Protects Us by Not Telling Us Everything
God’s silence does not automatically mean He no longer cares about us.
Some truths require maturity before we can carry them well. A loving parent doesn’t place a burden on a child before the child is ready to handle it. In the same way, God knows what we are prepared to understand and what we are not yet ready to carry.
We can see this in Abraham’s life. God did not give him every detail of what his calling would involve. What He withheld was not evidence that He didn’t care. God knew what Abraham needed to know and what he did not yet need to know at each point in his journey.
There are also things God has chosen not to reveal because they simply do not belong to us.
Jesus said:
“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” — Matthew 24:36 (NIV)
Moses expressed the same truth:
“The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever…” — Deuteronomy 29:29 (NIV)
God is free to reveal what we need when we need it and to keep what He has chosen to keep within His own wisdom.
We should be grateful for both because His wisdom can never fail us. He knows what to reveal, what to withhold, and what is best for us.
God’s Wisdom Remains Supreme
God’s wisdom is always greater than our understanding, and His timing is always better than our own.
He is for us and not against us. His love is present in what He reveals, and His wisdom is also present in what He chooses not to reveal.
Through what He reveals and what He withholds, He can strengthen our faith, mature our character, deepen our intimacy with Him, and teach our hearts to depend on Him. We can be grateful for both, as well as for the grace He continues to provide along the way.
Our becoming matters to Him. He is not only concerned with what He will accomplish through us, but also with what He is accomplishing in us.
We can be confident of this truth:
He will never leave us stranded.
We may not know everything He is doing, but we can keep trusting His wisdom, His timing, His character, and His care for us, even when we cannot yet see the whole picture.
